ANNOUNCEMENTS –4/20/07

Teachers: Please distribute information concerning the blood drive to your resource students. 
 
Please dismiss the girls and boys track teams at 2:50. There’s a track meet in Rock Falls. 
 
Please dismiss the Fr/Soph baseball team at 3:00 for their game in Mendota.  
 
FFA members interested in being in the State Convention Band or Chorus see Mr. Streit. The deadline for entry is May 1. 
 
The Junior class is accepting candidates for prom crown bearers ages 3-6. Please submit a picture with name and age to Mrs. Whitman by today. No exceptions! 
 
There is a meeting for all current members of NHS Monday, April 23, during 2nd resource, in Mrs. Gelander's room. Please plan to attend, as we will be planning for the banquet on Sunday, April 29. 
 
There will be a mandatory meeting for all girls interested in playing basketball next year on Tuesday, April 24, during first resource in Mr. Pasley’s room. Please see Mr. Pasley in Room 217 if you cannot attend. 
 
Attention Freshmen: A representative from Herff Jones will be here on Wednesday, April 25 from 7:45 to 8:30 a.m. to take your class ring orders. Please have your name and address filled out on your order form and the rep will assist you with sizing your finger. Anyone needing a repair or resize on their Herff Jones class ring, may see the representative during these times. Any upperclassmen that still wish to purchase a class ring may also do so at these times.  
 
The sign-up for Fresh/Soph and Varsity Volleyball Summer League is now open. You must sign up by May 1. You may register and find more information at timbivins.com (click on Clipper Corner, then Summer League) or by calling Coach Bivins at 815-284-3080. 
 
Tickets for Prom are on sale now. Cost for the tickets will be as follows: current AHS juniors and seniors tickets will cost $30.00 each. AHS freshman or sophomore guests or AHS graduate guests will cost $35.00. Non AHS freshman or sophomore guests and non AHS graduate guest tickets will cost $40.00. You must have all of your class dues and fees paid. Permission forms will also be given at the time of the ticket sales. Official tickets will be given out after the permission forms are returned to Ms. Nelson. 
 
Attention Seniors: Applications are now available in the guidance office for the Amboy Knights of Columbus Scholarship. There will be two $500 awards given, and to be eligible, you need to he planning on attending college and either your father or grandfather would need to be a member of the Knights of Columbus organization. The deadline is May 4. See Mr. Sauter for details. 
 
American Legion Boys State will be held June 9-15 this year. If you are a junior at AHS, possess at least a 3.0 GPA, are involved in school and community activities and wish to attend Boys State, there are application forms in the main office. Amboy American Legion and local businesses will send several boys this year, if interested, to Eastern Illinois University at Charleston where Boys State is held. It is a seven day hands-on experience in the operation and fundamentals of government. Activities include legislative sessions, court proceedings, law-enforcement presentations, assemblies and seminars. Organized athletic competition is held in basketball, soccer, softball and volleyball. Those with talent in band, may bring their own instrument to participate in concerts. Any qualifying student should complete the application and turn it in to the office by May 10, 2007. 
 
Attention Seniors: If you are planning to attend Sauk Valley College next year, you need to sign up in the Guidance office, immediately, for a registration appointment. Sauk counselors will be here on Monday, April 30, and they will only register you for fall classes if you have made an appointment prior to April 24. Also, there are only 18 spots available for registration here at AHS, so students will be accommodated on a first come first served basis. 
 
Attention Seniors: Applications are now available in the guidance office for the Amboy Lions Club Scholarship. The deadline is 5/4/07 and the amount is determined each year by the Lions Club and may be up to $1,000. 
 
Students – you can still order your yearbook for $43.00. This year you can have your name, your graduation year and a choice of icons for an extra $10.50. See Ms. Yeske for details. 
 
The library is open second resource this week.

Amboy FFA had 12 winners in Section 2 Proficiency Awards last night. They were Tori Leffelman, Morgan Spangler, Drew Montavon, Justin Burke, Josh Burke, Jamie Noble, Jeremy Wolf, Joe Dickinson, Tyler Klein, Will Klein and Andy Bulfer. 
 
Band members are reminded to meet in the music room at 6:30 p.m. tonight to warm-up for our pep band performance. 
 
The next rehearsal for “Damn Yankees” is tomorrow, Saturday, Feb. 17 from 1:00-3:00 p.m. We will be rehearsing Act 2. Sunday’s rehearsal will run from 2:00-5:00 p.m. and we’ll be rehearsing Act 1. All cast and company members should attend both rehearsals. 
 
The pit orchestra for “Damn Yankees” will rehearse from 1:00-4:00 p.m. on Sunday in the music room. 
 
Reminder to all softball players, staff and students: Money for softball team shirts/sweats/etc. are due today or Monday, Feb. 19 (if you are attending our Monday night meeting at 6:00). See Mrs. Eller if there are any questions or problems. 
 
Attention set painters and art club: We will be painting sets on Monday, Feb. 19th beginning at 12:00 until ?? 
 
Boys Baseball players remember to turn in your pizza orders on Tuesday, Feb. 20. 
 
A reminder to Sophomores: If you are planning on attending the Whiteside trip you will need to have your pre-excused absence form into the guidance office by Tuesday, Feb. 20. 
 
The junior class of 2008 is starting to work on the senior video for this year’s prom. All seniors need to choose three (3) pictures of him or her. Students need to include one baby picture, one picture from elementary school or junior high, and a senior or recent picture of himself/herself. If you have no recent pictures, your student needs to let us know and we can take a picture with a digital camera at school and use that. Group pictures are also welcome. Students may bring in a maximum of 10 appropriate pictures from any age group they want. All pictures will be returned. Students need to make sure the student’s name is on the back of individual and group pictures to be returned. Students may want to put pictures in a zip lock baggie or large envelope to keep the pictures together. The deadline for getting the pictures in is Monday, 12 March 2007. Please turn the pictures in to a junior class officer or Ms. Nelson. If you have any questions, please call Ms. Nelson at the high school, 857-3632 extension 335 and leave a message. In addition, you may email her at cnelson@amboy.net. If seniors have any songs they want considered for use in the video, please write them down and give the list to a class officer or Ms. Nelson. Thank you for helping to make the prom of 2007 and most specifically the senior video a great success. 
 
Attention Juniors: Registration forms are now available for the ACT prep class that will be held this year. Classes will be held on 3/6, 3/13, and 3/20. Classes are 2 hours long. The cost of the program is based on the number of students who enroll, but is expected to be between $5 and 10 per student. See Mr. Sauter for further information. 
 
The Amboy School District 272’s Office of Technology is pleased to announce a new program to the public, open computer lab at the High School. Every Wednesday night continuing thru March 7th the High School computer lab will be open to the public from 6:30 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. All District 272’s acceptable use policies will apply. All public patrons using the lab will be required to sign an acceptable use policy. Space is limited and computer use will be on a first come first serve basis.  
 
Seniors – If you haven’t heard yet, you can put your own custom senior photo in the yearbook. The deadline is March 8. See Ms. Yeske with any questions.

Attentions Seniors: Applications are now available for the Branigan Family Scholarship. This is a $2,000 award and the deadline is 3/15/07. To be eligible you must be planning on attending a college or community college in Illinois and must have a 2.75 GPA or better. See Mr. Sauter for details. 
 
Attention Seniors: If you are a member of a low income family, you may be eligible for the Tri-County Opportunities Council Scholarship. The scholarship is for $1,000 and the deadline is 4/13/07. See Mr. Sauter for details. 
 
Attention Seniors: There are two new scholarship applications available in the guidance office for students planning to major in an agriculture related field: 
- The Larry Green Memorial Scholarship and Farm Bureau Foundation Award is a combined application with one award being for $300 and the other award ranging from $250 to $750. The deadline is 4/1/07. 
- The Dean Henkel Scholarship is a $750 award and it also has a 4/1/07 deadline. 
For both of these scholarships you or your family must be a member of the Farm Bureau. See Mr. Sauter for details.

ATTENTION ALL SOFTBALL PLAYERS: Orders for socks, visors, and turtlenecks are due to Mrs. Eller today by 3:30. Please see me if you need another form. 
 
REMINDER TO ALL SOFTBALL PLAYERS: Your Krispy Kreme forms and money are due to Mrs. Eller on Monday, December 18 by noon. Please keep working on our fund raiser by asking family, friends, teachers, and other staff members in all buildings. See Mrs. Eller if you need more forms. 
 
Students who took the PSAT/NMSQT test back on Oct. 18 should make an appointment with Mr. Sauter to see their results.

Seniors who will be attending Sauk next semester as a dual enrollment student must stop in the guidance office to complete Sauk’s dual enrollment forms, which were just received. Failure to do this will mean the loss of the ACE grant which covers ½ of your tuition.

The girls basketball team fell to Polo 48-33 in the Oregon Tournament Thursday night. Jessica Walter led the Lady Clippers with 8 points and 5 rebounds. Paige Lovgren added 8 points and 3 assists, while Ebony Harrison had 8 rebounds. The girls will continue tournament action Saturday at 11:00 a.m. 
 
The following freshmen need to see Mrs. Gelander today about their fundraiser: Robert Ayling, Taylor Doege, and Cody Richardson. 
 
The following students must see Mrs. Mekeel today as soon as possible: Josh Dempsey, Warren Bontz, Cameron Jacobs, Michelle Pool, Kourtney Vaessen, Zack Knoll, Bethany Wittenauer, and Sheena Kemp. 
 
Band, chorus, and flag corps members who didn’t turn in their fruit fundraiser forms in to Mrs. Mekeel yesterday, can do so today. Those who turned in forms can pick them up today. 
 
Flag corps members should bring in their clean uniforms today. 
 
There will be a mandatory meeting for all mat managers today at 3:30 in the cafeteria. 
 
Band, chorus, and flag corps members going on the Trans-Siberian Orchestra trip are reminded to meet at AHS at 11:30 a.m. this Sunday. 
 
Applications are now available in the Guidance office for the Elks National Foundation Scholarship and the Elks Most Valuable Student Scholarship. The deadline for both is 1/12/07. The Legacy Award is for $1,000 and the Most Valuable Student Award can be worth from $4,000 to $60,000. Anyone can apply for the MVP Award, for the Legacy Award you must be the child or grandchild of a current member. See Mr. Sauter for details. 
 
Attention Seniors: Applications are now available for the KSB Hospital Scholarship. This scholarship is open to any student planning to major in a healthcare related field. This is a $1,000 scholarship and the deadline is April 30. See Mr. Sauter for details. 
 
Attention Seniors: Applications are now available for the Burger King Scholarship Award. This scholarship is open to students who work a minimum of 15 hours per week, have a 2.5 GPA or better, and who can demonstrate a financial need. The award is for $1,000 and the deadline is 12/01/06.

ANNOUNCEMENTS – 11/10/06 
FRIDAY

The office will only be giving out change after 3:20. Students will not be able to get change in the office during school hours.  
 
The Academic Team kicked off Prairie River League play last night at Bureau Valley. The F/S lost both rounds to BV 90-220 and 10-110. High scorer was Zack Knoll with 4 toss-ups. Nathan Draper and Maggie McConville each added 2. The varsity lost their 1st round to BV with a score of 25-33. They won against Riverdale 77-10. Then they defeated Newman 143-87. High scorer was Andrew Schultz with 5 toss-ups. Will Klein had 4, Katie Klein scored 3 and Michelle Apple and Jessica Schnaiter each added 1. 
 
Good luck to Travis Kemmerer, Katie Klein, Zack Knoll, Lexi Klein, and Kaylee Jones as they will be representing Amboy in the IMEA District 8 Music Festival at NIU tomorrow. They were selected from students all over northern Illinois to participate in the Honors Band and Chorus. 
 
You may still purchase playoff tickets today until 3:20. 
 
There will be a mandatory mat manager meeting today at 3:30 in the cafeteria. 
 
Cookie dough pick-up is today immediately after school in the auditorium. 
 
Students going on the Trans-Siberian field trip are reminded to turn their money in to Mrs. Mekeel by today. 
 
The will be a pep rally tonight at the bandstand at 7:00 p.m. Come and show your support! 
 
The band should meet at the bandstand in downtown Amboy tonight at 6:30 p.m. to warm-up and tune for the pep rally. We will begin playing at 6:50 p.m. 
 
The flag corps should meet tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. in the auditorium to warm-up for the football game performance. 
 
The band should meet at AHS tomorrow at 11:30 a.m. to get ready and warm-up for the football game. 
 
Attention Freshmen: On Tuesday, Nov. 14, we will be administering the Stanford math test to all freshmen. On that day, you must be in the auditorium at 8:20 a.m. You will need to bring your calculator and two #2 pencils. 
 
Attention all softball players: There will be an informational meeting for all girls interested in playing softball this year. The meeting will be on Wednesday, Nov. 15, during 2nd resource in the auditorium. If you need to switch lunches, please see Mrs. Eller for a pass. If you cannot attend the meeting, please see Mrs. Eller on Wednesday, Thursday or Friday next week. 
 
AHS Key Club is collecting toys for the Amboy ESDA to help out needy children in our school district. We would like toys given to any Key Club member or to Mr. Johnson. Your help will be appreciated by those in need. 
 
The Student Council will be selling Clipper drawstring bags this week. They will be sold at most home events and can be purchased through Mrs. Lindenmeyer or Britainy Ohlendorf.

The ticket price for the football game tomorrow is $4.00. You cannot use your student activity pass for post-season games.

Fall play students need to pick up Advanced Notice of Absence Sheets today in the office.

The sophomore volleyball team ended the season with a victory over Indian Creek by a score of 20-25, 25-12, 25-15. Emily Schrock had 7 service points, Katie Leffelman had 12 service points, Jessica Walter had 7 kills and 1 block, and Hillary Liebing had 6 kills and 2 blocks. 
 
The varsity volleyball team was defeated last night be Indian Creek 25-23, 21-25, 13-25. Jeri Payne had 9 service points, 7 kills, 1 assist, and 4 digs; Ebony Harrison had 5 kills, 4 digs, and 5 service points; Lauren Liebing had 3 kills, 6 service points, 1 assist and 5 digs; and Nicole Ely had 7 assists, 5 service points and 2 digs. The girls will begin regional play Monday night at 7:30 p.m. against Paw Paw in Serena.

The cost is $13.00 and you need to be at the community building at 5:30 p.m. The bus leaves at 6:00 p.m. You are to bring extra money for Culvers and you will return between 10:30 and 11:00 p.m. Sign up in the high school office. This is a national competition, but last year we had two students win these scholarships. It is worth going after this one.

The FFA Freshmen Quiz Bowl Team won 2nd place at the Section 2 Leadership Training School on Wednesday night. The team only lost by 1 point. Those in the top 10 from Amboy were: Emily Setchell, 2nd; Laura Child, 3rd; Josh Shepard, 5th; Joanna Leighton, 9th; and Joe Stephenitch, 10th. 
 
The JV1 golf team finished with a 227 last night and the JV2 team finished with a 254. Medalists were Josh Burke with a 50 and Jerad Cummings with a 51. 
 
The Amboy News will be here between 12:30 and 1:30 to take pictures of all the Homecoming attendant candidates (Freshmen through Seniors). The office will call you to the mall area when it is time.

There will be sports physicals available at KSB Medical Group in Amboy on July 10, from 1:00-4:30 p.m. The cost is $15.00 and 100 % of the fee is donated back to the school. Call 857-3044 to make an appointment. 
 
KSB is providing sports physicals for Amboy athletes on June 1 at 4:00-6:45 p.m. at Town Square Center (2nd Street entrance) in Dixon. The cost is $15.00 and 100% of the fees collected will be donated back to the school. Pick up the information in the office.
