ANNOUNCEMENTS –8/21/07 
 
ANNOUNCEMENTS ARE DUE TO THE OFFICE BY 8:15 A.M. OR

Lunch menu for today: Hot dog, chicken fried steak 
Wednesday – Ham & cheese, fish melt

Whiteside and Sauk students may pick up planners and punch passes in the office. 
 
David McGraw, Lucas Gablemann, Jordan Willstead and Blake Erisman need to see Mrs. Fredericks in the office. 
 
Yearbooks will be handed out today during lunch in the cafeteria. Extras are available. 
 
The flag corps will practice today after school until 3:10 p.m. in the auditorium. 
 
Yearbook staff will meet on Wednesday after school to plan this year's yearbook. 
 
Sophomores, pick up a class officer petition from Mrs. Gelander in Room 214 and return it by 2:20 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 22. Requirements are listed on the petition. This year a speech discussing your goals and leadership ability will be given before the voting during resource on Thursday, Aug. 23. The speech must be a minimum of 1 minute. Report to your classroom for attendance and then to the auditorium. Bring something to write with. We will remain in the auditorium until resource ends.

Students: If you have pictures from MORP, please bring your camera disk to Ms. Yeske. Pictures are needed for the yearbook. 
 
Students who took the PSAT/NMSQT test back on Oct. 18 should make an appointment with Mr. Sauter to see their results. 
 
Attention Seniors planning to major in Agriculture: Applications are now available in the guidance office for the Monsanto Commitment to Agriculture Scholarship. The deadline for this is 2/15/07 and the award is for $1,500. To be eligible you must have a family member engaged in production agriculture and have a minimum ACT score of 18. See Mr. Sauter for details. 
 
Attention Seniors: If you are planning to major in an agriculture related field, applications are now available for the Hintzche Fertilizer Scholarship. The deadline is 2/16/07 and award is for $1,000. You must have a 3.0 GPA or better to be eligible. See Mr. Sauter for details. 
 
Juniors, if you would be interested in being an Illinois governmental intern during you senior year, you should stop in the guidance office for a program application. Deadline for applying for this program is April 7, 2007 but you are encouraged to begin the process early, as it is fairly lengthy.

Attention Freshmen: If you have any Christmas decorations that you would like to donate to help decorate the hallway for Christmas, please give them to a class officer by today. 
 
Chorus members who are singing the National Anthem at tonight’s wrestling match should meet in the music room at 5:30 p.m. to warm-up. 
 
The cast, crew, and pit orchestra of “Damn Yankees” will meet tomorrow, Dec. 13 during 1st resource, in the auditorium. 
 
REMINDER TO ALL SOFTBALL PLAYERS: Your Krispy Kreme forms and money are due to Mrs. Eller on Monday, December 18 by noon. Please keep working on our fund raiser by asking family, friends, teachers, and other staff members in all buildings. See Mrs. Eller if you need more forms.

Band members are reminded to meet in the music room tonight at 6:30 p.m. to warm-up for tonight’s pep band performance. 
 
Band, chorus, and flag corps members should make arrangements to pick up their fruit order tomorrow immediately after school in the auditorium. 
 
Please stop in the office this week to fill out a card with your name on it as you want it to appear on your diploma. 
 
Amboy Key Club will be collecting new toys for Toys for Tots. The last day for collection will be Dec. 10. Please put the toys in the barrels around the school. For further information, please contact Jenna Didier or Mr. Johnson. 
 
Clipper Basketball t-shirts are now on sale for $8.00. See Mr. Pasley if interested. 
 
Student Council will be collecting canned goods until Thursday, Dec.7. Our goal will be 750 cans. A prize will be announced at a later date for the whole school, if we meet this goal. There will also be a prize for the class that collects the most cans. 
 
Attention Seniors: Although there are still no individual PSAE result sheets available, you can check in the guidance office starting today, to see if you qualified to be exempt from all or half of your finals. If you are exempt from half of your finals, you will have to let Mr. Sauter know by Friday, in writing, what finals you will be taking, otherwise he will choose, and we all know that won’t be pretty! 
 
Seniors who will be attending Sauk next semester as a dual enrollment student must stop in the guidance office to complete Sauk’s dual enrollment forms, which were just received. Failure to do this will mean the loss of the ACE grant which covers ½ of your tuition. 
 
Attention Seniors: Applications are now available in the guidance office for the Illinois Society of Professional Engineers Scholarship. To be eligible you must be planning to major in engineering, have a 3.0 GPA and a minimum ACT score of 29 in math and 25 in English. The award will be for a minimum of $1,000 but could be higher. Deadline is 1/19/07. 
 
Attention Juniors: The Discover Card Scholarship is available and to be eligible you must have a 2.75 GPA or better and must have overcome a significant obstacle in your life. Minimum award is $2,500. Deadline is 1/31/07. See Mr. Sauter for details. 
 
Attention Seniors: Applications are available in the guidance office for a new scholarship, the Odd Fellows Scholarship. The Oddfellows is a service organization, like Kiwanis, and their scholarship is for a minimum of $500 but could go to $1,000. The deadline is 3/1/07. 
 
Attention Seniors: Applications are now available for the National Wild Turkey Federation Scholarship. To be eligible for this award you must hold a current hunting license and have a 3.0 GPA. The award can range from $250 to $1,000. The deadline is 2/1/07. See Mr. Sauter for details.

The Varsity Academic Team traveled to the Mendota Lions Club last night for dinner and a match against Mendota. The score was Amboy 130, Mendota 86, and the Lions 26. Andy Schultz scored 4 toss-ups, Will Klein scored 2 and Kelsey Miller scored 1. Rookie Daniel Saunders, along with Michelle Apple and Katie Klein, assisted with bonuses. 
 
The AHS Music Department would like to invite everyone to the Winter Concert this Sunday, Dec. 3 at 7:00 p.m. in the auditorium. Come and enjoy the sounds of the season!! There is no admission charge. 
 
Band, chorus, and flag corps members are reminded to turn in their fruit fundraiser forms and money in to Mrs. Mekeel today.

Attention Seniors: Applications are now available for the Burger King Scholarship Award. This scholarship is open to students who work a minimum of 15 hours per week, have a 2.5 GPA or better, and who can demonstrate a financial need. The award is for $1,000 and the deadline is 12/01/06. 
 
Attention Juniors and Seniors: Several colleges have already set up their fall visit dates to Amboy. Those that have are: 
University of Wisconsin/Platteville – Nov. 15 at 9:00 a.m. 
Ashford University – Nov. 15 at 1:00 p.m.

Congratulations to the 14 band and 12 chorus members from AHS who were selected to perform in the TRAC-8 Music Festival held yesterday at Morrison High School! Guest conductors rehearsed all day with the Honors Band and Chorus and then performed a concert in the evening. Congratulations again on your hard work and fine performance! 
 
The Student Council will be selling Clipper drawstring bags during lunch through next week. They will be sold at most home events and can be purchased through Mrs. Lindenmeyer or Britainy Ohlendorf. 
 
There is a sign-up sheet for anyone interested in taking a fan bus to the football game in Hampshire on Saturday. The bus would leave around 10:30 a.m. and be home around 5:00 p.m.. It will cost $5.00 to ride and must be paid when you sign-up. We will have to have 35 to 40 kids sign-up in order to pay for the bus. You must sign-up and pay by Wednesday before you leave school.

The varsity volleyball team defeated Paw Paw last night 25-18, 25-14 in the first round of regional play. Amboy now advances to the semi-final match tonight, at Serena, and will face Mendota at 6:30 p.m. Ebony Harrison had 5 kills, 2 digs, 2 blocks and 3 service points; Britainy Ohlendorf had 8 digs, 2 kills, 13 service points and 3 aces; Jeri Payne had 7 digs, 2 kills, 1 assist, 12 service points and 4 aces; Nicole Ely had 2 digs, 1 block, 5 assists, 1 kill and 1 ace; Lauren Liebing had 3 digs, 2 kills and 8 service points; Michelle Apple had 2 digs, 5 assists and 2 points; and Sheena Kemp had 6 digs.

The Varsity Academic Team started the season with 2 conference wins last night. They beat Bureau Valley 155-140 and defeated Erie 140-75. Will Klein scored 10 toss-ups, Andy Schultz had 2, Andy Bulfer scored 1 and Katie Klein scored 1. The F/S team split for the evening. They lost to Morrison but defeated Bureau Valley. 
 
Congratulations to the following students who were selected to perform in the IMEA District 8 Honors Band and Chorus: Kaylee Jones – Junior Mixed Chorus; Lexi Klein – Senior Mixed Chorus; Travis Kemmerer, Katie Klein, and Zack Knoll – Senior Band. These students went through difficult auditions at Rock Falls High School this past Saturday and competed with students from all over northern Illinois to have the opportunity to perform in these organizations.  
 
We will be ordering playoff shirts this year. If you want to order a long sleeved t-shirt, you will have to pre-order that shirt by 3:20 on Wednesday, Oct. 18. They will be $20.00. We will also order short sleeve t-shirts that will cost $10.00. You do not need to pre-order those. They are going to be red t-shirts this year and we hope to have them in by early next week. 
 
There will be a boys basketball meeting today right after school, at 1:35 p.m., in the gym. The meeting will last only 10-15 minutes.
