ANNOUNCEMENTS –8/20/08 
WEDNESDAY 
ANNOUNCEMENTS ARE DUE TO THE OFFICE BY 8:15 A.M. OR  
THEY WILL GO IN THE NEXT DAY’S ANNOUNCEMENTS. 
 
Lunch menu for today: Beef & gravy, corn dog 
Thursday – Meatball sub, chicken fried steak 
Friday – Chicken patty, Sloppy Joes 
 
Students are not allowed to leave the building for any reason unless they have received a pass from the office or been given permission by the office. After being given permission to leave the building by the office, students must sign out and sign back in. 
 
Attention Sauk and Co-op students: Remember to sign in and out of the office when you are coming or going. There is a sheet on the office counter for this purpose. 
 
Students, please remember to write your student ID number on your lunch money that is turned in to the office. Money needs to be turned in by 8:20 a.m.

FFA Officers will be having a meeting on Friday, Aug. 22, during 2nd resource. Please meet in the Ag classroom. 
 
There will be a “Welcome Back to School Dance” on Friday, Aug. 22 from 7-11 p.m. Yearbooks will be distributed that night from 7-8 and the dance is from 8-11 with a very popular local band called Kirkland. The cost is $5.00, but if you are picking up your yearbook and want to stay for the dance it's only $2.00. If you aren't coming to the dance to pick up your yearbook, you can get it the following week during resource. Any student may come to the dance – whether they purchased a yearbook or not. 
 
Attention Spanish 3 and 4 students. Senora Sondgeroth is starting a Spanish Honor Society this year. For information on eligibility, please see her as soon as possible. Students must self-nominate by Sept. 1, 2008.

Band members are reminded to take their instruments home today. Memorial Services are this Monday, May 26. Please meet at Amboy Veterans Park at 9:20 a.m. – we will begin playing at 9:45 a.m. If it is raining, the Memorial Service will be held in the AHS auditorium. 
 
Mr. AHS has been cancelled. 
 
Student Council will be holding the annual Brain vs. Brawn Tournament this Friday, May 23 at 3:30. It is a class competition consisting of a dodgeball and trivia tournament. Sign-up today during lunch. 
 
P.E. finals will be in the cafeteria. Please report directly to the cafeteria.

Student Council will be selling "Kiss A Senior Goodbye" candy grams during lunch today for $1 each. The candy grams will be passed out to the seniors during graduation practice. 
 
Any girls interested in playing Westwood volleyball in July need to sign-up this week in the office or Ms. Nehring’s room. 
 
There will be a meeting today during 2nd resource, in the gym for all 2008-2009 boys’ basketball players. 
 
Students who plan to drive to school next year need to stop in the office and fill out a slip to obtain a parking pass. There will not be an extra fee for this, but it will be mandatory for students who drive to have a parking pass. There will be a lottery to decide parking spots and passes will be handed out at registration. If you want a good spot, slips should be filled out today.

Mrs. Wittenauer is now taking orders for copies of this year's Senior Video, which will include the Prom Grand March as well as candids from Prom. The cost is $10 (payable to AHS), and the payment is due when the order is placed. Please see the sign-up sheet in the high school office. The DVD's will be available in a week to 10 days after prom.

Congratulations to Wayland Froelich for his 1st place finish in the triple jump at the Princeton Sectional last Friday. Wayland will be competing in the state tournament this weekend.

AHS students donated 75 units of blood yesterday. Your gift of life is truly appreciated. Thanks to co-chairmen Emily Setchell and Matt Bulfer for going a great job. 
 
Today are the Student Council elections. Freshmen will stay in the auditorium after 1st resource and vote, then head to lunch. Sophomores will report to the gym to vote during 2nd resource in the gym. Please bring a pen or pencil to vote with. Juniors attending Whiteside can vote in the office before they leave. 
 
Prom pictures will be given out in resource. Any court member not receiving a picture package should see Mrs. Goy in room 102. 
 
The last flag workshop is today immediately after school in the auditorium. Try-outs will follow the workshop. 
 
Attention softball players: There will be a mandatory clean-up meeting after school today. Bring your uniforms. Uniforms must be turned in before you can get your awards on Monday.

The varsity softball team won their first ever regional game by defeating Mendota last night 9-1. Katie Nauman went 4 for 4 with a home run, 2 singles and a double, Emily Schrock went 2 for 4 with 2 singles, and Ashley Thomas was 2 for 3 with 2 singles. 
 
The F/S baseball game for today has been cancelled.

Attention boys interested in attending Illinois Boys State June 7-13, 2008: To qualify you must have completed your junior year, have a “C” average or better, have the desire to attend, and submit a request to attend to Mr. Sauter. 
 
Any freshman sophomore or junior student interested in attending Northern Illinois University's Summer Health Career Camp should see Mr. Sauter for an application. This is a three-day camp for students thinking about pursuing a career in any of the health occupations. There is no cost to the program, so it is an exceptional value. 
 
Have fun in the sun…while you burn. Forms are available in the office for detasseling with Jason Bonnell for Pioneer. Work runs from the end of June through the end of July. 
 
Earn up to $8.05 per hour for Kemmerer/Hart Detasseling. Sign-up in the office. 
 
Attention Seniors: Applications are now available for the Lee County Republican Scholarship. This program offers two $1,000 awards and two $500 awards. You must be planning to attend college as a full-time student to qualify. The deadline for application is 5-20-08. See Mr. Sauter for details. 
 
The library will be open during first resource this week. 
 
The lab will be open during second resource this week. 
 
You must get a pass from Mrs. Dunn by 8:15 (by the time the first bell rings) in order to come to the library during resource. 
 
Passes will NOT be issued after the first bell rings! 
 
The library will close for the year on Friday, May 9—ALL BOOKS AND MATERIALS ARE DUE BACK TO THE LIBRARY ON MAY 9.
