Dear Parents or Guardian, We are very pleased to announce the implementation of PowerSchool at our District 272 schools. What Is PowerSchool? PowerSchool is the district's new, comprehensive student information system. The PowerSchool Parent Portal gives you and your Amboy Junior High School and Amboy High School children secure access to a copy of the school's central information system, so you can see complete information that is specific to your child's performance in class; grades, attendance, student fees, scheduled events, and a vast array of other incredibly useful information. You will also be able to communicate with school staff through e-mail whenever you need to, as well as view on-line assignments and homework. PowerSchool will be implemented at a limited level at Amboy Central School this year (attendance and bullletins only). PowerSchool delivers "real-time" information. As soon as information is added or changed within the system, it is immediately available for viewing. Teachers will post assignment grades as their schedule allows, therefore, please be patient in waiting for grades to become available. Also, be aware that attendance may be modified throughout the school day due to various reasons, such as doctor appointments, school-related events, etc. Please chieck with your student's teacher(s) and/or school office is you have questions regarding grades or attendance. We are excited to implement PowerSchool because we see its potential to bring teachers, parents and students together in closer collaboration, making the demands of school life and continued study easier for the students - and you as a concerned parent! This service has the potential to make a huge difference to your child's experience of going to school. It can dramatically improve the earning process, and give you, the busy parent, an unprecedented opportunity to increase your active involvement with your child's academic progress and future success. PARENTS OF HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS: All students at Amboy High School will be given passwords to access their personal student account. Parents who wish to have their own personal log-ins to access their student's account must contact the Technology Department at 815-857-3632, ext. 312 (leave a message) to request a log-in or request may be emailed to awittenauer@amboy.net. PARENTS OF JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS: Amboy Junior High students must have a permission form returned to the school in order to be issued log-in information. Parents may also request access to their student's account as directed above. As PowerSchool features display information about your child, we must contact you to get your consent. Please read the following information and, if is acceptable to you, give your consent by signing the permission form and return it to the school. We will then forward you and your children confidential user names and passwords to access your child's information. If you don't have a computer at home, fear not, PowerSchool is available to you! You may access PowerSchool from any computer that has internet access. Specially designated computer areas will soon be available at Amboy High School. FERPA Amboy Community School District must comply with FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act). FERPA is a federal law that protects the privacy of student education records. The law applies to all schools that receive funds under an applicable program of the US Department of Education. FERPA gives parents certain rights with respect to their children's education records. These rights transfer to the student when he or she reaches the age of 18 or attends a school beyond the high school level. Students to whom the rights have transferred are "eligible students." Under FERPA, you must give consent to the school before the school can publish your child's information on the PowerSchool server. 1. Parents or eligible students have the right to inspect and review the student's education records maintained by the school. 2. Parents or eligible students have the right to request that the school correct records, which they believe to be inaccurate or misleading. 3. Generally, schools must have written permission from the parent or eligible student in order to release any information from a student's education record. Schools may disclose, without consent, "directory" information such as a student's name, address, telephone number, date and place of birth, honors and awards, and dates of attendance. However, schools must tell parents and eligible students about directory information and allow parents and eligible students a reasonable amount of time to request that the school not disclose directory information about them. Schools must notify parents and eligible students annually of their rights under FERPA. We invite and very much look forward to your participation Together, we can make a real difference in children's futures. Your involvement can help build a better school and home learning community. Please be patient with us if all information is not available on the site at first. We will be adding features periodically. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the school offices or the Technology Departmen With sincere regards, Quintin Shepherd, Superintendent PERMISSION FORMS WILL BE SENT HOME DURING THE FIRST WEEKS OF SCHOOL. PERMISSION FORMS WILL ALSO BE AVAILABLE ON LINE SOON! |
